Children & Teens Performing Arts
Jessica Hedspeth is the director and founder of Musical Soup Entertainment. With over 14 years training and experience in the performing arts she brings strong credentials to MSE. Having performed since the age of 10, she has a heart for young girls who love to sing, dance, and perform, and a deep passion to help them develop their talents and skills to their highest potential.
Jessica says, "Many children find themselves, loving to sing and perform, just wishing and hoping for an opportunity
to come along so they can get some on-stage experience."
She started singing in school at age eight and auditioned for an entertainment cast much like Musical Soup's at age ten. During the years as a cast member she performed well over 100 shows in both solo and ensemble performances at fairs, festivals, corporate and charity events, sports and military events, as well as television appearances, and sang the national anthem for some major sport events. Throughout her school years she performed in special programs and events, competed in pageant competitions where talent was a required component, was in a national award winning high school show choir and other choral programs being voted "Best Vocalist" by her peers all 4 years, was a 3-year member of a competitive high school dance/color guard team mastering
movement, flag, sword, and rifle, and performed in school musicals.
During her early high school and early college years, she recorded professionally with two girl groups, one pop and one country, working with well-known songwriters and musicians. The groups were marketed to major labels in hopes of "making it" in the entertainment world. One of the groups gave her the experience of filming a music video, and she even had a
short-lived opportunity as a lead in a rock band.
She graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee in 2004, a
college that is renown for its music studies. Performing in the cast ensemble, as well as
supporting and lead roles, she performed in musicals and graduated with
a Bachelor of Music degree majoring in Musical Theater.
While attending Belmont University, she met Troy Hedspeth, a well-known Virginia performing artist, who has also been singing since he was 10 years of age, and is now the Associate Minister of Music and Worship at Spring Branch Community Church in Virginia Beach. Jessica moved to Virginia Beach in 2005 after she and Troy were married, and has since been bringing her voice to the music team at Spring Branch, and has participated in concerts in the area.
Jessica feels strongly that the training and opportunities she had through school and private instruction were wonderful, but the experience in the entertainment group gave her opportunities to perform that never would have come her way otherwise. That experience made such an impact on her life that she wants to fulfill her dream of giving the same kind of wonderful experience back to young performers.
Jessica feels God has guided and blessed her in a special way with the gift of her experiences, and says, "This kind of musical experience has proven to be invaluable in my life professionally and personally. I compliment and thank my mentors (my Mom and Dad, Mrs. Gries, Ms. Sutherland, Ms. Monroe, Mrs. Halbert, and Mrs. LaRock), for giving me encouragement, training, and opportunities that allowed me to reach for stars!"
